Admiral’s Cup and Rolex Fastnet Race

I have just completed three thrilling intensive weeks of media management for the Admiral’s Cup, the world’s most prestigious inshore/offshore grand prix yachting series, followed by the Rolex Fastnet Race. I was part of a small media team in Cowes, working alongside some of yacht racing’s most prominent journalists. Fifteen Admiral’s Cup teams came from across the globe, bringing many top names including Olympic medallists and America’s Cup stars on board the most technologically advanced racing boats. With the spectacular 440-boat start of the Rolex Fastnet Race our operation moved to the race village base in Cherbourg to provide media support during the epic race and at the finish line. Setting up the media centre and making sure we had enough coffee was the easy bit. I was proof reading late into the evenings, selecting images from the incredible Rick Tomlinson and his awesome son James Tomlinson and equally talented Paul Wyeth, creating web posts and press releases to send out to the worldwide yachting, national and regional media. Not to mention the press conferences, prizegiving organisation and a host of other tasks throughout the event. Keeping the flow of information to the hungry and enthusiastic publications was a relentless and working as part of a team on behalf of organisers, the Royal Ocean Racing Club, was such a buzz. I’ll be looking for similar projects into the future so don’t hesitate to get in touch!
